An academic urges freshmen to protect their rights if university hazing goes out of control.Sompong Jitradab, of Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Education, said hazing can still be held but in a proper way. Violent activities, sexual abuse and alcohol must be prohibited, Mr. Sompong said.
He said students already under stress from problems concerning the admission system might contemplate suicide if treated badly in hazing activities. Freshmen, he said, should defend their human rights and report to the university in case they were harassed or given unpleasant or dangerous things to do in the hazing.
Mr. Sompong suggested universities organize hazing activities that are useful to communities and the country.
