A legal expert suggests the Election Commission (EC) hold the new election within 90 days of the day the Constitution Court found the April 2 election unconstitutional. The court yesterday ruled the poll illegitimate.Worajate Pakhirat, a lecturer at Thammasat University's Faculty of Law, said the 90-day period will allow politicians to change parties and prepare themselves for the contest. The constitution requires poll candidates to be members of a political party for no fewer than 90 days.
Mr. Worajate said the court's ruling on the April 2 election meant the 485 poll winners already endorsed by the EC actually never had House membership.
On the other hand the Election Commission of Thailand (EC) officially endorsed most of newly-elected senators on Monday. EC Chairman Pol. Gen. Vasana Puemlap told journalists that the election agency had officially endorsed 109 newly-elected senators after a meeting of election commissioners to review results and complaints of the April 19 Senate poll.
